habits in the night

20 habits in the night

What are the best habits in the night ?

  1. 5 Minutes of Putting things in their Rightful Place - Plates, Notebooks, Pens, Clothes, anything you used that made your home more cluttered. Take 5 minutes before you go to bed to put things where they belong. You’ll find yourself more relaxed when you wake up.
  2. 30–120 Minutes of No Electronics before Bed - This is right before you go to bed. Turn off that phone, shut down the PC and either read in a book or do other things. It’s okay not to have something running all the time.
  3. Getting Ready for Tomorrow - We only have so much decision-making-power in any given day. Don’t exhaust your pool with thinking about what to wear or what to do before the day has really started. Do this the night before to keep your power for decisions that matter.
  4. Reflect - How did the day go? What went well? What do you want to go better tomorrow? What did not go so well? How can you make it go better tomorrow? Think about it, make a plan, and put something into action tonight; even if it is just setting an alarm to remind you to do this tomorrow.
  5. Be Grateful - What are 3 things you are proud of today or grateful for? End the day off thinking positive thoughts so you have a great nights rest.
  6. Leave Things Behind - Today is over. Tomorrow has not come yet. Whatever it is that you are worrying about or frustrated about, leave that for another time, as you will not do anything about it now anyway. There is a time and place for this, but that is neither now nor here. Now it is time to rest.
  7. Set up the Room - 16°C-18°C and complete darkness, ideally complete silence as well, creates the ideal sleeping scenario.
  8. Ready a Glass of Water - As soon as you are awake, sit up and drink that glass. This will start your body and will let it know to rise. So even if you cannot totally leave the comfort of your bed right away, you increase the chances and make it easier on yourself by doing this.
  9. Keep your Alarm at the same Time - Many people set their alarm when they go to bed for 8 hours from the moment they fall asleep. Do not do this. Keep the wake-up time the same 7 days a week and instead go to bed earlier or take a nap in the day. It gives your body a better rhythm if you do.
  10. Read - Right before you go to bed you want to give your mind something to drift off too. I recommend not reading books to improve yourself, but rather stories or things that take you to a different time or place. Fictional stories are the best for this as you want to allow your mind some time to settle down.
  11. Stop thinking about your worries. When you rest your head on that pillow, put aside all the worries and thoughts. I mean literally purging all the clutter from your mind. STOP THINKING.
  12. Floss before retiring to bed. You will thank yourself for this when you get older. Having natural healthy teeth in old age is a blessing.
  13. Drink warm milk 30 minutes or so before you hit the sack. Warm milk relaxes you.
  14. Read a few pages from a book you like. I am talking about old school physical book. None of that ebook shit on kindle or whatever.
  15. Relax by engaging in deep breathing and stretching. Your muscles will relax and you will sleep better.
  16. Keep your phone in the other room or on silent if possible. I have parents who live on their own a few miles away from me so I don’t turn my phone off or to silent mode because I don’t want to miss an emergency. But I keep my phone away from my bed. If you can, turn your phone off at night.
  17. Spend a few minutes thinking about the next day. Planning for tomorrow will give you a solid head start. You will feel less stressed after you wake up because you will have a plan to execute on.
  18. Never go to bed angry.
  19. Feed your subconscious mind. Repeat what you want to achieve tomorrow, in the coming week/month/life 5 times while taking deep breaths. This trains your subconscious mind. If you can penetrate your subconscious mind your thoughts, energy, and actions will be aligned to achieve what you desire.
  20. Be grateful. I think this is so underrated. We all are constantly running from one thing to another and always being so hard on ourselves. Yes there is always room for improvement but do take a moment to be grateful for what you have. We all have something we are grateful for - health, love, family, kids, house, food, jobs, etc.
